It's been really entertaining reading the posts about the Palin scandals, it seems a new one pops up every 10-12 hours. First the inappropriate interference while mayor of Wasilla, AK. Then the revelation that her and her husband were members of the crazy Alaska Independence Party (AIP),which also has ties to white supremacists and whose leader was murdered in a deal to buy explosives. Then the cult-like churches she attends. And now the National Enquirer announces that this is just the tip of the iceberg.
So what does Palin currently think of the AIP? Hard to know -- she's been keeping mum -- but this year she told AIP members: "I'm delighted to welcome you to the 2008 Alaska Independence Party Convention. ... Keep up the good work!"This has kept me much too busy to post here, but I plan to get back to posting shortly. Checkout DailyKos, TPM, and Crooks & Liars for more juicy details.
Does it make you uneasy to have a possible secessionist sympathizer aiming for the White House? Do you worry that Palin shares AIP founder Vogler's burning "hatred for the American government"?
Relax! If so, it will enable her, as vice president, to more effectively bond with foreign leaders she'll meet, many of whom also nurture a hatred for the American government. In diplomatic demarches, finding common ground is always helpful.
McCain has always promised that his ticket would show "independence." We just didn't realize it was going to be this kind.
